Life is not measured by the breaths we take!

The other day, Wed. Morning, I was listening to Mike and Mike from ESPN talking about Manning and whether he will play football again. This discuss was really in the background as my thoughts were on my six year old who had been injured on the play ground at his school the previous day. Three hours at the eye specialist that evening only to have an appointment booked the next morning for another eye surgeon at 8:15 am even before his other patients. I was concerned is an understatement. The mind tends to wonder in these situations to what if statements. As my friend Neil says ‘the human is the only creature on this planet that can rationalize reality away.” Likewise the human is the only creature on this planet that can rationalize the situation to be in a worst state than it really is. Or in many cases rationalize empathy with the injured which only makes the “What if statement” more intense and double so when that injured is your own DNA.

Mike was interviewing Archie Manning on this question or in my mind on a question similar in semantics. In hindsight I am totally off on this point but I believe the question was can you put yourself in Payton’s position and address his thoughts on what if he never plays again. Archie ignored the question and said if he never plays again is not really the question but will he live a healthy life and be happy. I am paraphrasing but that is what I choose to hear out of the question and answer.

I got to the hospital and waited for Little E to be done his examination. He came out of the room with a mile wide smile and a stuffed reindeer as in a teddy bear with a card saying complaints of Anonymous. On the back said was this saying “Life is not measured by the breaths we take but the moments that take our breath away” with the following link www.erinsgift.ca .

That smile took my breath away and told me the answer to a simple question that any parent or in this case any Dad would have. We always want what is best for our loved ones and that is for them to be happy and healthy.
